This new season isn't turning out to be as dreary as it seemed. There is some watchable stuff after all.

The one I'm really enjoying is Durarara!!.
Quote:
Ryuugamine Mikado is a boy who longs for the exciting life of the big city. At the invitation of his childhood friend Masaomi, he transfers to a school in Ikebukuro. Masaomi has warned him about people he doesn't want to cross in the city: a champion fighter, an informant, and a mysterious gang called "Darazu." Nervous from Masaomi's stories, Mikado witnesses an urban legend on his first day in the city, the Headless Rider astride a black motorcycle. From then on, the existence of supernatural cases and a gang called the Yellow Turbans will rise to the surface, and Ikebukuro will pushed to the breaking point.
It's well done by the same people who did Bacchno!.

Nodame Cantabile: Finale continues to be as entertaining as ever. Going to hate to see this one end.

Take the girls from K-ON!, put them in the Army and stick them in some backwater post and you have a fair idea of what Sora no Woto is about, but that's actually a good thing. I like this show a lot it's well done with a good story and without being too moe.
Quote:
After a cease-fire during a long war. A second-class Bugler soldier, Kanata Sorami, is reasigned to her new outpost to a stronghold Fortress in the little city of Seize, where other female soldiers reside to serve in a multi purpose task, 1st: maintain the fortress, 2nd: contribute to the traditions of the city since all are young females and the folklore tales that the young maidens keept a demon under control, and 3rd: also to be prepared in case of a non probable attack due to the isolation of the city.

Katanagatari is another good one. It has a simple but striking artistic style, interesting characters who interact amusingly and a captivating story.
Quote:
This story takes place in the Edo era where Yasuri Shichika is the seventh head of the Kyotou school of Japanese sword martial arts living in Fushou Island with his sister Nanami. With the order from a female samurai general Togame, he sets out for a trip to collect the twelve treasured swords created by a legendary swordsmith Shikizaki Kiki.
That "Kyotou school of Japanese sword martial arts" is a sword less school of swordsmanship. I can't believe they left that out. It's kind of important. Since he doesn't use a sword, he is immune to the ill effects of wielding these special swords he is supposed to collect. That's why he was the one picked to do it.

The rest of the stuff I have been watching is pretty mediocre. Anyone know of anything good I'm missing?

Sora no Woto episode #4: I like this show more with each release. There is much wisdom in this episode.

Has anyone else been watching Sora no Woto?

Elsewhere I had posted the same posts as I did above and got into an argument with someone who was dismissing it as just another moe show. I got him to watch the first four episodes - all that had been subbed at the time and argued further with him. I pointed out depth to the story and made some educated guesses about where it was going.

I just finished watching the end of it and was astounded that my predictions about the story weren’t too off base. I’m usually only right about my political predictions, not my literary/cinematographic ones.

I said after watching four episodes:
spoiler (sort of)
Quote:
Here’s the way they have been foreshadowing the story: Just about the time they have the tank mostly repaired, the enemy will make a push deep into their territory and these six women will have to defend the town. Using their rare and powerful tank they will hold off the invading army and defend the town until the main army comes to the rescue. The girls will be national and local heroes and will receive many honors - posthumously.
and then
Quote:
I said:
…that they must locally produce tank parts. I believe the tank is a relic from early in the war, and that the country no longer possesses the infrastructure and know-how to produce them. I also believe that this is true of their enemies, else they would have overlords instead of an armistice. Which is why I think that if they can get the tank up and running they just might be able to hold off an enemy attack since the enemy won’t have any such powerful machines.

By not “too off base”, I mean that the above wasn’t quite how it ended up but that I was in the neighborhood. If you want to know how it really ended, you’ll just have to watch it.

Ok, I bought a Mediabox so I could watch downloaded animes on TV. This is a good time to start watching everything. But that also means I'd have to spend less time online.

You can't remind me about something I never knew anything about. It's good, eh? I found a torrent here. I'm downloading it now.

I just finished watching the first episode. I'm not the least bit surprised you like it, jjjynx. It seems just like that Bake...(whatever) of which you were so fond. I hope it turns out to be at least that good.

This is two different stories, but done by the same anime studio. And the seiyuu are from Bakemonogatari. That's the only similarity.

The story itself, however, goes two different worlds.

Arakawa Under the Bridge = Crazy, Love Comedy

Bakemonogatari = Supernatural word play wit

Both works were written by two different authors, one originated from a novel, while the other, a manga.

The author of Bakemonogatari is the script writer for Medaka Box.

Seems the VA for Araragi Koyomi couldn't shake his character off that well. I'm hope he does well for Recruit in the upcoming episodes...this brings back so much memories I'm going to read the manga from book one again.

I found the replacement for Mini-Nova!

For all your torrential needs.

I got an animated movie called How to Train Your Dragon that I'm watching right now. It's funny and I recommend it highly.

I got myself a copy of Disney's English dub of Ponyo yesterday. So now I have seen the English dub twice. I can't say that it's bad. It's just different. After watching the subs so many times, I notice every little change. There was one point where what they didn't change sticks out like a canker sore to me.

It was when Ponyo's dad takes her back from Sauce K and he is wading out into the sea looking for her. When his mom reaches him and picks him up, he begins to cry hard. For some reason, they kept the original VA's crying in the dub. I recognize it, it isn't the same voice that was speaking a moment ago.

Anyway, there are some cool things in the Extras. There is a version of the movie using Miyazaki's own storyboards. The soundtrack is normal - but you see a progression of hand drawn pictures instead of the regular video, in your choice of either English or Japanese; with or without subs.

In the usual interviews with various people that made the movie, Miyazaki himself confirms my interpretation of Fujimoto. He says that Fujimoto is not evil, but just your typical Japanese father making mistakes while trying to protect his daughter. I mean, come on, guys; how would you react if you found out your precious daughter was sneaking off to see some guy? =0)

I'm still busy with work. But I'm still an Otaku.

So here goes.

Yesterday after buying a month worth of Manga I came across one of the titles I've thoroughly enjoyed, and saw on the Flier, that the anime is airing on July.

It's on it's third book, and the anime just aired...and it's most naughtily entertaining I've re-read the manga itself multiple times just to laugh at its jokes again.

Title: Seitokai Yakuindomo

Just go ahead and take a look at it if you're free. I'm too lazy to find details on it, since I, after all, only noticed the anime by reading my Manga.

I'm still buying lots of Manga, games, model kits, and Limited Edition Figurines as an Otaku, but with lesser time each week I'm having a hard time clearing everything at the same time. I wonder if I'd need to catch up on stuffs by the time I'm retired.

Well, back to work filing, sanding and painting another Model Kit of Mine. I'll try to pop in as often as I can. I hope there're more good works down the road to share with.

EDIT: Note. The anime originated from a Four Panel Manga. So don't expect a major storyline, and just sit back and laugh away at how low they can get.
