In your eyes,
I see... me.

- Rachelle Langton -

YOU'LL LOVE ME YET
Robert Browning

You'll love me yet!--and I can tarry
Your love's protracted growing;
June rear'd that bunch of flowers you carry
From seeds of April's sowing.

I plant a heartful now: some seed
At least is sure to strike,
And yield--what you'll not pluck indeed,
Not love, but, may be, like.

You'll look at least on love's remains,
A grave's one violet:
Your look?--that pays a thousand pains.
What's death? You'll love me yet!

WIND AND WINDOW FLOWER
Robert Frost

Lovers, forget your love,
And listen to the love of these,
She a window flower,
And he a winter breeze.

When the frosty window veil
Was melted down at noon,
And the caged yellow bird
Hung over her in tune,
He marked her through the pane,
He could not help but mark,
And only passed her by
To come again at dark.

He was a winter wind,
Concerned with ice and snow,
Dead weeds and unmated birds,
And little of love could know.

But he sighed upon the sill,
He gave the sash a shake,
As witness all within
Who lay that night awake.
Per chance he half prevailed
To win her for the flight
From the firelit looking-glass
And warm stove-window light.

But the flower leaned aside
And thought of naught to say,
And morning found the breeze
A hundred miles away.

1 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,

3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,

4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,

5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,

6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,

7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,

8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

Eclesiastes 3, The Holy Bible (NIV)

2 "Meaningless! Meaningless!"
says the Teacher.
"Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless."

3 What does man gain from all his labor
at which he toils under the sun?

4 Generations come and generations go,
but the earth remains forever.

5 The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.

6 The wind blows to the south
and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,
ever returning on its course.

7 All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
there they return again.

8 All things are wearisome,
more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,
nor the ear its fill of hearing.

9 What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.

10 Is there anything of which one can say,
"Look! This is something new"?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.

11 There is no remembrance of men of old,
and even those who are yet to come
will not be remembered
by those who follow.

Eclesiastes 1, The Holy Bible (NIV)

Turn, Turn, Turn by The Byrds
Lyrics adapted from the above Bible verse
Music by Pete Seeger

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time to build up,a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time to love, a time to hate
A time for peace, I swear its not too late

Also I recently remembered these two from long ago:

Fishy fishy in a brook
Father catch him with a hook
Mommy fry him in a pan
Baby eat him like a man

Birdy birdy in the sky
Drop some whitewash in my eye
I'm a big boy, I don't cry
Just thank God that cows don't fly

That reminds me of ...

'Tis the gift to be simple,
'tis the gift to be free,
'tis the gift to come down where you ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
It will be in the valley of love and delight.

When true simplicity is gained,
To bow and to bend we shan't be ashamed.
To turn, turn will be our delight,
'Til by turning, turning we come round right

'Tis the gift to be loved and that love to return,
'Tis the gift to be taught and a richer gift to learn,
And when we expect of others what we try to live each day,
Then we'll all live together and we'll all learn to say,

'Tis the gift to have friends and a true friend to be,
'Tis the gift to think of others not to only think of "me",
And when we hear what others really think and really feel,
Then we'll all live together with a love that is real.

That reminds me of the one I posted on my MySpace blog (under Religion). It's about the same age but less known. I'd post an mp3 of it if I had one (and no, I won't make an mp3 of myself singing it. You'll just have to wait until I have the means to rip vinyl).

Sad and Deep as You
by Dave Mason

Lips that are as warm could be
Lips that speak too soon
Lips that tell a story
Sad and deep as you

Smile that's warm as summer sun
Smile that gets you through
Smile that tells a story
Sad and deep as you

Eyes that are the windows
Eyes that are the view
Eyes that tell a story
Sad and deep as you

Tears that are unspoken words
Tears that are the truth
Tears that tell a story
Sad and deep as you

I like that! I'm stealing it.

Made me think of several ... these are just just clippets, not the whole thing ...

As the deer panteth for the water,
So my soul longs after you.
You alone are my hearts desire,
And I long to worship You.

Gonna lay down my sword and shield
Down by the riverside
I ain't gonna study war no more
Down by the riverside
Gonna walk with the Prince of Peace
Down by the riverside
Gonna put on my long white robe
Down By the riverside

Ol' Man River, that Ol' Man River
He must know somepin', but he don't say nothin'
He just keeps rollin', he keeps on rollin' along

The last one is Ol' Man River, music by Jerome Kern, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, from the musical Show Boat (1927). I liked the musical and the song. I like musicals in general. I liked the storyline of this one, makes me want to watch it again.

I'm not sure if this would count as a poem, but it sure fits my friend's definition of being bad prose =)

a tiny opening

it is that ability to stop
in that space in that moment
and realize that you are making the decision
the choice
to flip the world on its end
that whatever internal tide
or external flood
still you have that choice
to react differently
and by this one decision
you change the world

that is the work of alchemy

"Once upon a time, in New York City in 1941... at this club open to all comers to play, night after night, at a club named "Minston's Play House" in Harlem, they play jazz sessions competing with each other. Young jazz men with a new sense are gathering. At last they created a new genre itself. They are sick and tired of the conventional fixed style jazz. They're eager to play jazz more freely as they wish. Then... in 2071 in the universe... The bounty hunters, who are gathering in the spaceship "BEBOP", will play freely without fear of risky things. They must create new dreams and films by breaking traditional styles. The work, which becomes a new genre itself, will be called... COWBOY BEBOP"

Them Tummy Gummers
by Mason Williams

How about Them Tummy Gummers,
Ain't they dummies?
Havin' they fun,
Gummin' them tummies.

Gummin' them paunches,
Outta they mind,
Runnin' 'round shoutin',
"It's Tummy Gummin' time!"

Look at Them Tummy Gummers,
Lurkin' in the yard,
Waitin' for a jelly-belly,
Catch it off guard.

Them hawn-yawkin' Tummy Gummers,
Ain't they dumbox?
Runnin' through the neighborhood
Gummin' them stomachs.

How to be a Tummy Gummer?
No way to shun it.
Grab an abdomen,
Roar off and gum it!

Good Morning Sunshine!

A song in my heart
and smile on my lips
I'm beaming and radiant
for nothing is amiss.

I need to laugh, and when the sun is out
I've got something I can laugh about
I feel good, in a special way
I'm in love and it's a sunny day

That is a very unusual flower. I've never seen anything like it. Do you know what it is?

Dear Son:

I wish I had the power to write
The thoughts wedged in my heart tonight
As I sit here watching that small star
And wondering where and how you are.
You know, Son, it's a funny thing
How close a war can really bring
A Father, who for years with pride
Has kept emotions deep inside.
I'm sorry, Son, when you were small
I let reserve build up that wall;
I told you real men never cried,
And it was Mom who always dried
Your tears and smoothed your hurts away
So that you soon went back to play.
But, Son, deep down within my heart
I longed to have some little part
In drying that small-tear stained face
But we were men - men don't embrace
And suddenly I found my Son
A full grown man, with childhood done.
Tonight you're far across the sea,
Fighting a war for men like me.
Well, somehow pride and what is right
Have each changed places here tonight.
I find my eyes won't stay quite dry
And that men sometimes really cry.
And if we stood here, face to face
I'm sure, my Son, we would embrace.
Son, dads are quite a funny lot,
And if I've failed you on some spot
It's not because I loved you less
But just this cussed manliness.
And if I had the power to write
The thoughts wedged in my heart tonight,
The words would ring out loud and true,
I'm proud, my Son, yes proud of you..

He signed it "Dad"and walked down to the corner and dropped it in the mailbox. As he returned home and reached his own doorstep he was handed the war department telegram, the one that began with the fateful words "We regret to inform you."

I'm glad that I can believe his son knew he had written that letter.

- Ronald Reagan, "Stories in His Own Hand"

Wow, that's a very moving letter. Sad too.

I have no idea, I was just browsing the 'net and found a flower that I liked.
