I'm glad that you're pleased. Nothing that cool ever comes to my area.

Nodame Cantabile, Yuria 100%’s Live-Action Trailers
I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the incarnations of this story ever since the anime was new. It has a good balance of drama to comedy and never takes itself too seriously which would be all too easy to do with the classical subject matter. I liked the anime a bit better than the live action because it went more into the music itself and made you want to hear it.
Of course, the music is epic - destined to become classic. =0D

Japanese Industry Launches Global Anti-Piracy Effort
I guess they want to get things back to where anime is only in Japan.

It means I won't actually buy any anime at all; I don't buy DVDs without having seen at least some of the episodes. Unless, of course, they actually start airing decent series here on TV.

*edit*: Oh yeah, EU has just passed law to cut off internet from "persistent file-sharers of copyrighted content". We need to somehow mount a counter-offensive...

I will buy anime. As long as it's an anime worth buying. And also, if I'm rich enough. I wanna keep all the good ones so I can start brainwashing my kids once I have any.

I think it'll work, but they must air series online at certain timings, or have them broadcasted on TVs here for us. But seeing Singapore and it's wonderful censorship board, I'd say watching proper anime on TV is a no go.

Also, if they manage to do it online while preventing piracy (Yea Right....), I'm willing to pay a small fee as long as it's of good quality and doesn't lag.

I must be dreaming.

Exactly.

That's the price you pay for living in a Socialist Paradise. The best counter offensive I can think of is to get Europe out of the EU.

Oh, looky here! I just found this old post I had saved:
Once, or maybe twice, upon a time, GrinfilledCelt wrote:
I just had a thought about how fansubs relate to my anime buying habits. It's pretty much the same as it is for television. Most of the stuff on tv is crap. Anime scores a bit better than that, but it is much the same. If I really, really like a show; I'll want to buy it. If I really, really, really, really like a show; I probably will. Basically, I try not to buy dvds I'll only watch once since the cash I have for such things is very limited. So I rarely buy anything I haven't already seen and know that I like.

Since the anime aired in America is limited and most of that is stuff for small children, fansubs fill the function of tv for helping me to decide what I purchase. If it weren't for fansubs my anime purchases probably would have stopped after Cowboy Bebop. If it weren't for fansubs there wouldn't be much of an English speaking online anime community where my friends tell me which fansubs I should be viewing. If it weren't for fansubs, when I go to the store I'd see very little anime that I have seen, let alone that I really, really, really, really like, and would go buy the first season of Burn Notice instead.

Having to pay to preview anime online, no matter how cheaply, would accomplish two things: first it would immediately and drastically reduce how much anime I view and second, it would reduce the cash I have available to purchase anime.

Unless anime becomes very much mainstreamed on American tv - and I doubt that will ever happen - shutting down the fansubbers would effectively destroy the American market for anime.
It seems this subject has come up afore. I imagine that it works pretty much the same way in England and Singapore, too.

The question is, how will you know if you have not watched it already? You can't go on reviews as opinions vary wildly...

I want you to know I've very good sixth sense. Sure I miss a few good hits sometimes, but I've never failed at spotting a gem before. Besides Gundam 00 Season 2, that was an oddball, and for FANS only.

You need to have at least heard of an anime before your sixth sense can kick in. There has been plenty of good anime that would never have been heard of outside Japan if it were not for fansubs. For instance, have you heard anything at all about Bakemonogatari from any other source than the fansubs and their viewers?

Prior to that, only from novels, and a few comics from the same author I'm reading. I've heard of the title, but only got interested once I saw it's news online. It came along with synopsis and wallpapers, so yea, fell in love with it right after the trailers.

Isn't that what happened for Higashi no Eden too?

Fansubs are there for the masses, perhaps I'm just not part of the masses. And if this country of mine ever did any serious imports, I'd already had my hands on the Blu Ray version of Gundam Char's Counterattack and Bakemonogatari by now.

Oh yea, as for the manga that the author for Bakemonogatari is writing the script for. I'll bet with you guys that it'll have an anime adaption. I just can't quite capture it's English title yet. Perhaps once it's out you guys will know.

Not more than two days ago I said, "Hey! Wasn't there supposed to be an Eden of the East movie out by now?" I looked and couldn't find any new torrents and then this evening I find this posted at ANN.

Some flunky over at ANN wrote:
Eden of the East II Film Expanded, Delayed Until March

The anime studio Production I.G has announced on Wednesday that Eden of The East the Movie II: Paradise Lost, the second film sequel to the Eden of The East anime series, has been delayed until March. The film was originally scheduled for January 9. The company cited "production issues" for the delay, since the company had initially planned two 60-minute film sequels. However, as the story structure of the films expanded, the company extended the runtime of the first film sequel to 82 minutes. The second film sequel is now slated to run for 90 minutes.

The first film sequel, Eden of The East the Movie I: The King of Eden, will open as planned this Saturday in Japan.

Dennō Coil Gets Japan's 1st Augmented Reality Campaign
Quote:
In the real world, the Den-noh Coil promotional campaign runs on pin@clip, a new Apple iPhone/ipod Touch application that uses the phone's camera, GPS (Global Positioning System) navigation system, motion sensors, and compass. As the user walks around and pans the phone's camera across the surroundings, the application
detects any places of interest within the line of sight. The application then displays the live camera video feed and superimposes informational tags about those places in comic-style balloons. The Parco Part 1 department store in Tokyo's bustling shopping district of Shibuya is offering 15 different t-shirts with Den-noh Coil art, and the pin@clip application will display tags in Shibuya that are tied to the anime and the t-shirts.
