Listening to the English in Beck got me wondering... why didn't they just hire real Americans? Or why don't they call me? I'd do it for free... if they paid for my trip to Japan.

Appearently, you can do that with Bollywood. If you're an American and you go to India you can easily get into a movie. I don't know about anime, though.

Albright, the site admin at AnRe, got a job in Japan teaching English to kids. Recently, his contract expired and didn't get renewed and he's going to have to return to the states unless he finds another job. I suggested that he try to get into the anime buisness an an American va or English coach for the va's. He said that it is almost impossible for anyone, let alone a forigner, to get into that biz.

Well, I suppose the only people who would care are American Otakus (or whatever otaku of origin with their native tongue in use) when they use English speaking characters. If that's the case, I suppose it's no big deal for them.

Too bad. It isn't like certain film-makers who are adamant about things being as historically - and in this case phonetically - accurate.

Same can be said for English-language technical documents, computer read-outs or books or whatever might have text on it. In Fullmetal Alchemist, almost every book or parchment has the same message on it. In Cowboy Bebop - Sympathy for the Devil, Giraffe and Zebra have the same exact dossier. But then again, who cares? People watching this stuff on tv don't care about random paragraphs of a different language suddenly flashing across their screen. I on the other hand am cursed with the propensity of having to read every paper and computer read-out that gets even a millisecond of screen time when it comes to the anime I watch. Frustrating, too, when it's the same thing I read 5, 10, 25 minutes ago.

Anyone else remember the RP we had a AG? I think we only ever had one on the CB board. I don't remember much about it other than it took place in a bar, there was a brief-case, and somebody was a data-dog. That's all I remember.

Does anyone remember who started the "I'm no smoker... but" Thread?

I know it started out with how much CB made smoking look cool. Can't remember who started it.

The thread started out as a thread about how Bebop made the writer want to smoke...but turned into a huge discussion about religion. I think I remember it getting pretty intense.

I wasn't deeply involved in it, but it was interesting. It went from the appeal to some governmental issues about cigarettes to moral issues which eventually made it religous.
