Yes. I like it. It has crappy animation and artwork, and the music sucks ass, but the story is real good.
I read quite a bit of the manga before I started watching the anime. A couple of years ago Radio Shack was selling them as a way to promote their line of 1/32 scale r/c cars. About six months ago I picked up this three volume set on sale there for around five bucks.
EDIT: After posting the above, I noticed that you were talking about that new movie. I knew that it was about the Japanese roadracing clubs and their drifting techniques but I didn't realise that it was based on Initial-D. Is this true? What is the name of the thing anyway? _________________

Don't remember that....unless you're talking about the Taiwan version with that silly boy Jay Chou. |

The movie currently in the theaters is The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. I can't find anything that mentions Initial-D though. Here is what imdb says:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0463985/
The plot decsription doesn't sound anything like Initial-D either.
Quote: | Plot Outline: In order to avoid a jail sentence, Sean Boswell heads to Tokyo to live with his military father. In a low-rent section of the city, Shaun gets caught up in the underground world of drift racing. (more) |
If that is Initial-D, it must be some minor character I don't remember. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing it.
Here is the Jay Chou one jjjynx is talking about:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0439630/
It's titled Tau man ji D. It says that the movie is in Cantonese. I wonder if there are any English subs? _________________

The Live Action movie is in Cantonese. The majority of the actors are Chinese except for the girl who plays as Natsuki (Anne Suzuki). It's actually quite good. I really just have one problem but it's actually quite understandable. It's the first, second, and third stages of the Initial D anime compressed. And when I say compressed. It is seriously jampacked into a two hour movie. Ryousuke is still there but Keisuke isn't around. Takeshi Nakazato is there without Shingo. A majority of the major racers aren't there except for the team leaders. With the exception of Seiji Iwaki of Emperor. Iketani is not in the movie and his role as the Speedstar's leader is taken by Itsuki. And they went the extra mile as to make Boss Yuiichi Itsuki's dad. Bunta is called "Tofuman" and Boss Yuichi is called "Gasman" but they're still homies from back in the day just like in the manga/anime. The drift battles between the previously mentioned characters are still there but just none in between. There are a few more anime and manga elements but I'll just leave that to you. _________________

I think I have the movie lying around somewhere but I didn't want to see it before I saw the anime. I tried watching the anime and it didn't really grab my attention. Is it worth trying again? |

I actually started out reading the manga before I saw the anime for Initial-D. The artwork is bad and the music sucks but the story is very good. It is kinda guy thing though. _________________
