Ah, nice site...how'd you come across such explicit research on Champloo? |

That stems from the expository writing I've growned accustomed to doing for books, movies, anime whatever media there is. I loved writing in High School. It's especially fun when you do it about cool stuff like anime.
I wanted to see if I could catch all the anachronisms and found this site. Anyway it's the kind of thing that is contributed by various persons. It's what I kind of want to do for new anime here.
I do the same thing with parodies like School Rumble or Magical Shopping Disctrict or Excel Saga. What is this scene a parody of? I'll ask myself. It really adds value (usually humor-wise) to whatever you are watching. _________________ nodes aka GTBaka

Hmm... what to add...
Mugen's style does seem a fair bit impossible, but if humans are capable of levitation, then I guess they can breakdance with swords, too. That capoeira stuff... I think I once saw it in a Jean-Claude van Damme movie once. Those two fight-dancing at the end of the video are moving incredibly fast.
One thing I really liked was the light-streaks that followed each sword swipe and chop. Stylistic aesthetics such as these, like tracer-fire on guns, make the battles alot funner to watch. I also found it interesting the polar opposite beliefs Jin and Mugen had. Where Jin did everything with the least amount of movement and wasted energy, Mugen exploded. Despite that, their stamina seemed about the same.
I was alright with the two following Fuu for the time being. I was even okay with them putting aside their battle in order to do it. One thing I did not find okay, however, was how they never questioned her about this sunflower samurai or her goals until much later. All that really drove any of them was food. I understand the whole philosophy about the journey over the destination, but... look at the difference between SC and CB. In CB, each episode is mostly self-contained: catch a bounty, get food, etc. In SC, each episode is also mostly self-contained except for one little bit... there's this underlying plot about a sunflower samurai with barely any explanation, no connection to each ongoing episode, and for the most part the group does not ever seem to get closer to their goal. I can suspend my disbelief for most things but had alot of trouble getting past how under-explained Fuu's intentions were at first and how under-concerned the samurai were about that.
One other thing I was a little turned off by was the episode about the zombies at the excavation site. First off... zombies!?!? I thought SC was an historical/anachronistic action drama without any supernatural elements, not a fantasy action drama with episodes like these that come along and make things weird. The episode makes you say WTF out loud at the end when it appears that the 3 main characters are destroyed by a falling asteroid and the series supposedly ends... _________________ Mugen Rocket!!! |

You're right about the main plot being unnecessarily obscure for most of the series, Poke. They could have revealed more about it, like the fact that the sunflower samurai was Fuu's dad. I can see no reason why she would hide this fact.

I think that that was the intention behind this episode - to make you go, "WTF?"
There was one particular thing that got me. In the second episode Jin fought the wimpy assassin who darned near killed him. He only broke it off because his client who was going to pay him to do so was killed. Just before he leaves, he engages in a whole lot of forshadowing about their fighting again. I spent the rest of the show waiting for him to show up again and he never does. Anybody else fall for this one? _________________

Ahh..the assassin that jumped out of fear of dogs, a very good act indeed to cover up his true nature thus no one will ever know that he was indeed a great master of swords fighting. Anyway, I never anticipated his appearance in latter episodes cause first of all he is an assassin. And his kind never really stays put in one place, they are like scatter all over...wandering around (To avoid being captured by authority) until some possible client overheard his skills in assassination and hired him. One way or another, the possibility to actually stumble with him is quite low.
And one more thing, Mugen is not a samurai by blood, I don't think he even has a family name...as far as I could remember. So honor and dignity means nothing to him so long as he wins. (hence the hidden knife at the tip of his scabbard....it's a dirty trick AND that he doesn't even care if his sword was to be sold. A samurai treated his swords like his own soul). Meanwhile Jin...well...perhaps he is a samurai, he never mention anything about his family background except that he was a student in a famous dojo. But by the way he acted when FUU and Mugen forced him to sell his sword, I guess it is safe to assume he is a samurai.
Another thing, Mugen is VERY creative, he actually added some steel plates underneath his wooden slipper. And when combined with his unnamed fighting skills (capoeira) it acted as some sort of a shield. I BELIEVE it's possible to excecute/immitate Mugen's fighting skills....with Tonnes of training. _________________ The mark of my divinity shalt scar thy DNA.

I never did expected any of the assasins to chow up again...since giving much thought to assasins, there was no point in coming out without a reason, and if any of them did they're probably hired again if they were not killed.
But seriously I'd like to see any of them fight someone who looks and acts like Sagat, from Street Fighter. |

Hooray! Niea -7
13 episodes on a fool and alot of fools...poor fools....heartwarming somehow...I forgot why. I should rewatch that, and along the way introduce it as well.
Okay perhaps it's time to change an anime...I've been watching a number of them lately...new ones and old...and I suppose we should start chatting on incompleted series...one I'm very interested to hear views on would be Black Lagoon (9), while the other that I'm also quite curious with would be Coyote Ragtime (5)...
Let's make a decision soon, and we can start the chattering. |

That can be arranged...but it's taking a little long for the new episode to be subbed...though I shouldn't complain. And there's only one thing I find funny with it, which I will mention when we start on it...besides that that art related scenes can also be mentioned, and to add, I must acknoledge the fact theat Shinsen Subs does their homework well, to research into the arts and giving explaination to which, what and when each pieces came out from. |

It's a shame it's taking so long, as episode 15 looks mighty bizarre. _________________ PARTY TIME. |

Let's put this on hold for a while, untill we all get to watch some things I'm seeing right now.
Oh yea, and I've decided after watching episode 2 of Jigoku Shoujo/ Hell Girl
I will implant it into the Otakus here....it's lovely to know how great it would be if a ghost house could be this interesting and this capable of mental torture...but I doubt it'd happen anytime soon. |

Bravo Bravo!
It's not on of the finest, but still, it's a well done ending fitting to it's theme and genre!
Ouran High School Host Club...So it's time for Discussion...but I'm probably right on the fact that not all of us has watched it, or completed it...but still, just join in once you're done (hopefully soon)
The 3 basic questions...
Which Episode did you like Most?
What Character is your Favourite?
What did you enjoy in a whole, and what would you have preferred? |

I just now finished watching the last episode of Jigoku Shoujo. Very powerful, very moving. It made me sad many times. I recommend it.
*mild SPOILER*
Hell Girl always explains the deal using the same words to each of her clients right after handing them a straw doll with a red string around its neck. I wonder what would have happened if someone had pulled the string after she explained it, but before she told them about the downside to the deal.
Hell Girl: If you truly wish to eliminate your antagonist, you must untie that red string.
Client: Great! *unties the string*
Doll: I hear and deliver this vengeance.
Hell Girl: ...Um...If you remove the string...Uh...since you removed the string, you shall... uh, have officially entered into a contract with me. The one you seek revenge upon shall be taken immediately to Hell. However, if I deliver your vengeance, I must have you make restitution to me. When one person is cursed, two graves are dug. When you die, your soul shall fall into the pit of Hell. Your spirit shall wander forever in pain and suffering, never knowing paradise.
Client: Oh, thats just terrific! Why didn't you tell me that sooner?
*END SPOILER*
Oran High School Host Club was a lot of fun. I don't see why they had to end it. I would have liked to have seen more from the girl's school club.
I don't have any favorite episodes or favorite characters. They are all part of a whole story which I either like as a whole or not. In the case of these two anime, I liked them both a lot. _________________
